HARTFORD, CONN. Municipal and state police officers are urging Connecticut lawmakers to pass a bill that would extend workers’ compensation coverage to police and other public safety workers who suffer emotional injuries in the line of duty.
Members of Council 4 AFSCME and the Connecticut State Police Union plan to hold a news conference Monday to voice support for the legislation. It would cover impairments such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
The event comes as a legislative committee is deciding whether to forward the legislation. Large numbers of police officers turned out last week for a public hearing on the bill.
Proponents say the bill is overdue.Municipal leaders have expressed concerns that the legislation will lead to expensive medical claims that cities and towns can’t afford.
