DENVER — Police in Denver are supposed to start using body cameras in just a few weeks. But the Denver Police Protective Association, which represents 1,300 officers, has filed a lawsuit against their implementation.
The union said the body cameras are safety equipment and said implementing them is subject to the collective bargaining agreement. It adds the city did not follow proper procedure in putting the policy in place.
The department has tested, researched and shown off body cameras.
The city attorney’s office said it does not believe body cameras are a mandatory topic for collective bargaining.
The policy is set to go into effect at the end of November or early December.
