SAN ANTONIO — The lead negotiator for the city of San Antonio rejected an offer Monday from to shift control of police officers’ health care from the city to the San Antonio Police Officers Association.

“We’re willing to sit and talk and get it done as long as it takes,” Mike Helle, President of the San Antonio Police Officers Association said.

‘They’ve proposed nothing that deals with the fundamental problems,” Jeff Londa said, the co-chief negotiator for the city.

The rejection comes as both sides appear to be in a stalemate over possible reductions to benefits of the city’s first responders.

The city’s fire department is expected to start negotiations on its next collective bargaining agreement later this year.
