Police union starts Ohio campaign urging support for police

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police is urging residents to support officers by signing an online petition and submitting photos of themselves through a new website.

A statement from the union calls StandWithCops.org “a response to recent controversies that have hurt the relationship between police and the communities they serve.” It also references attacks against police, including the fatal shooting of two New York officers.

Ohio FOP President Jay McDonald says it’s a difficult time to be in law enforcement. He says police aren’t the bad guys and law-abiding citizens should join law enforcement to advocate for safer communities.

He says the “Stand With Cops” effort is about getting a silent majority to more vocally support Ohio’s 30,000 law enforcement officers. It includes radio ads and a social media campaign.
